石本藤雄デザインミュージアム 2026 年春 故郷の愛媛・松山市に誕生

フィンランドを拠点に長年にわたり国際的に活躍し、テキスタイル、陶、アートの領域を横断して独自の表現を築いてきた、愛媛県出身のアーティスト・石本藤雄のコレクションを主軸とするデザインミュージアムを、2026年春に設立いたします。

本ミュージアムは、Mustakiviが石本藤雄と共に重ねてきた活動の集大成ともいえるプロジェクトです。

愛媛から東京に移り、大学卒業後にデザイナーとして歩み始めた1960年代、 日本を離れてフィンランドを拠点とした1970年代以降の約50年間の軌跡、そして帰国後の現在に至るまで──石本の創作と人生の旅を通覧するものであり、多世代の来訪者が「美」と「生活」を新たな視点で見つめ直す場を目指します。

建築は、日本を代表する建築家・伊東豊雄氏が担当。自然と調和しながらも、訪れる人の感性に深く訴える設計となっています。ミュージアムプロデュースは、これまで石本の大規模個展を三度にわたり手がけてきた東京・青山のスパイラル/株式会社ワコールアートセンターが担い、地域に根ざした文化と創造の交流拠点としての役割を加えていきます。

グラフィックとビジュアル・アイデンティティ、サイン計画は、日本デザイン界の礎を築いてきた日本デザインセンターの色部デザイン研究所が手がけ、石本の世界観に寄り添う洗練された視覚表現を構築します。

「石本藤雄デザインミュージアム」は、四国・愛媛に根ざしたアート、デザイン、生活文化が交差する新たな交流の場として、また、地域の工芸品をはじめ、日常によろこびをもたらす品々の魅力を発信する場として、国内外から注目を集める拠点となることを目指しています。

Press Release / A New Design Destination: Fujiwo Ishimoto Design Museum to Open in 2026

A new design museum dedicated to the work of artist Fujiwo Ishimoto is set to open in spring 2026 in Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture.

Originally from Ehime, Ishimoto has been internationally active since the 1970s, creating distinctive works across textiles, ceramics, and art from his long-time base in Finland. His cross-disciplinary approach has earned widespread recognition. Since 2016, he has also collaborated with Mustakivi, a lifestyle brand based in Matsuyama, designing tableware and towels using local materials. Today, Mustakivi products are available at the flagship store in Matsuyama as well as at select retailers across Japan.

The new museum will offer a comprehensive view of Ishimoto’s creative journey—from his early days in Tokyo in the 1960s, through nearly half a century in Finland, to his recent years back in Japan. It will also serve as a culmination of his ongoing collaboration with Mustakivi.

Rooted in the landscapes of his childhood, Ishimoto’s work has long drawn inspiration from the colors, textures, and quiet beauty of his hometown. The museum is being planned with the hope that visitors will discover, through his art and design, the everyday joys and blessings found in their own local surroundings.

It aims to be a place where people can reconnect with the deeper value of regional culture through the lens of Ishimoto’s creations.

Designed by world-renowned architect Toyo Ito, the museum building is envisioned to harmonize with nature while resonating deeply with visitors. The production is led by Spiral / Wacoal Art Center, which has organized three major exhibitions of Ishimoto’s work. It will also function as a cultural hub, fostering creative exchange rooted in the local community.

Visual identity, graphic design, and signage are being developed by the Irobe Design Institute of Nippon Design Center, offering a refined and cohesive expression of Ishimoto’s world.

The Fujiwo Ishimoto Design Museum aspires to become a new cultural landmark in Shikoku—where art, design, and everyday life intersect—and to share the charm of Ehime’s crafts and culture with audiences in Japan and beyond.
